How To Setup Google Optimize

1) Login to Google Optimize

2) Create Account

3) Enter Account Name (client company name)

4) Link GA account - Click “Edit Link” > Select the companies’ GA account > Save

5) Install Optimize Snippet - Click “View Snippet” > Copy the “ga(require…”

6) Open tag manager>Company GTM>Tags>New>Rename the tag, Configure> Google Optimize. Input Google analytics Tracking ID from GA which will be analytics.google.com and go to the client>Admin>Property Settings>Copy and paste the Tracking ID. Then go to Optimize and copy the “GTM-#####” which looks like this:

And paste that into the Optimize Container ID in the GTM Tag configuration screen.Next click Triggering>All pages>Save

7) Submit and make sure to check with preview

8) Minimize flickering:

Copy and paste this code above your <head> above the Google Tag Manager

9) Create an experiment: A) Name the experiment

B) Input the website

C) Click “Create”

10) Add Variant

A) Name the variant

B) Click Create

C) Click on the variant (this will be B in your A/B test)It should look like this

D) Make the change by clicking on an element, click “edit element” and then click “done”E) Select an objective

E) Input a detailed description and hypothesis

F) Click the “Targeting” tab and edit if you want to not show all traffic:

Make sure it is URL MATCHES the correct domain. An alternative would be URL Contains and that would mess things up.

You can also create rules to show the website to certain users by device, location, etc by clicking “And”

Click Save

11) Click “Start Experiment”

Run for 2 weeks minimum
